तत्र, शल्यं नाम विविधतृणकाष्ठपाषाणपांशुलोहलोष्टास्थिबालनखपूयास्रावदुष्टव्रणान्तर्गर्भशल्योद्धरणार्थं, यन्त्रशस्त्रक्षाराग्निप्रणिधानव्रणविनिश्चयार्थं च|| Su.Su.1/8(1)


Word meaning:

तत्र-There/ at that place

शल्यं नाम- Shalyam + Naama= surgery/foreign body/javelin/arrow+namely

विविध-different

तृण-grass/straw

काष्ठ-timber/wooden piece

पाषाण-stone

पांशु-sand/dust

लोह-iron/metals

लोष्टास्थि-loshta+asthi=clay+bones

बाल-small/hairs

नख-nails

पूयास्राव-puya+srava=pus+discharge

दुष्टव्रणान्तर्गर्भ-dushta+vrana+antargarbha=chronic/vitiated/infected +wound+retained fetus

शल्योद्धरणार्थं-Shalya+uddharana=surgery/foreign body/javelin/arrow+removing/ taking away,

यन्त्र-instrument

शस्त्र-sharp instruments

क्षाराग्नि-kshara+agni= antidote prepared by extracting the alkaline particles from the ashes of plants+fire

The branch, where different, grass/straw, timber/wooden piece, stone, sand/dust, iron/metals, clay, bones, small/hairs, nails, pus discharge, chronic/vitiated/infected wounds, retained fetus, etc Shalyas removed/ destroyed/ extracted/ taken away with the help of/by applying blunt instruments, sharp instruments, antidote prepared by extracting the alkaline particles from the ashes of plants, fire and also for the settling/ resolving/ healing of the wounds is done is called as Shalya.
